Why “Lina Mercer Real Estate Group”?

When I came home to Hampton Roads after years in New York, I looked at the successful Real Estate firms in the area.  I interviewed with several and just wasn’t able to find a place that I felt was a good fit.  I looked at what was important to me, considered how I wanted to work and how I wanted to be recognized in the Real Estate field and came up with three things that seem to be the driving difference between Real Estate in Hampton Roads and what I wanted to do.  So with those thoughts in mind, I decided to open the Lina Mercer Real Estate Group in 2011.

1)    We don’t have meetings.  That’s not to say we don’t communicate nor does it mean that we don’t get together when needed.  But we don’t have mandatory meetings that everyone must attend when the agenda may only apply to a few people.  We treat our agents with the respect due and recognize that they know what they need to do to be successful and we are here to support them.

2)    We don’t wear suits.  I believe in professionalism – its one of the hallmarks of my work, but I don’t think putting on a suit automatically makes one a professional.  In fact, I think it can make it harder for people to tell who the professionals really are.  I believe in dressing appropriately for the situation I am going to be in.  If a suit is called for, then I’ll wear the suit.  But there may be times that something even more formal is required, and there may be times that something less formal will do the job better.

3)    We provide a more equitable split for our agents.  As an experienced Real Estate professional, I know exactly how much work an agent does, and I know it’s worth more than 50% of the proceeds of a sale.  I also know, that in keeping with my great-grandmother’s tradition of giving people a hand up, not a hand out, I can offer a more attractive split to agents who work for me.  As the broker, I provide the support, the infrastructure, and all the intangibles that come with my good name, but I know that the agent does the work and should receive compensation accordingly.

As the owner of the company and the broker, I am free to ensure that the values of the company reflect my personal values.  And I am in the position to ensure that agents who work for me share my core values and goals.

At Lina Mercer Real Estate Group, we value Honesty in all things.  As the broker, I will always be honest with you – even if I have to tell you things you don’t want to hear and my agents will do the same.  And we expect our clients, sellers and buyers, to be truthful and forthright – to be honest – with us.  That degree of open and frank information exchange will always lead to the most satisfied of customers because there will be no surprises.  Everything will be on the table from the beginning.

We value Respect.  At Lina Mercer Real Estate Group, we’re as eager and excited to help the person with $80,000 for a home as we are the person with $800,000.  We’ll never be the kind of agency that turns someone away because they don’t represent a big enough “cut.”  Buying a home is an exciting and positive decision, but it can be stressful, hard work, and take a frustratingly long time.  Our job is to ease you through the paperwork, take as much of the stress off you as possible and move the process along as quickly as we can.
